Sri Lanka: PM Modi inaugurates Dickoya Hospital

Inaugrating the Dickoya hospital here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India also shares health and well-being of Sri Lankans.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Dickoya Glengairan Hospital in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena also attended the function.

After the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi toured the super-specialty hospital built with the cost of Rs 150 crore, which is going to mainly cater to the medical needs of Tamil plantation workers of Indian-origin who dominate the area.

India's total development portfolio to Sri Lanka now exceeds $2.6 billion, of which the grant component is more than $436 million.

India's financial assistance to the Dickoya Glengairan Hospital is a part of India's total assistance to Sri Lanka.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister reiterated India's full support to Sri Lanka's growth and prosperity.

The Prime Minister said that India's rapid growth could bring dividends for entire region, especially in Sri Lanka.

"In infrastructure, connectivity, transport and energy, we are poised to scale up our cooperation," said Modi. (ANI)
